# Integrating absentify with Power Automate

> Connect absentify with Microsoft Power Automate to trigger flows on absence events, sync data across apps, and automate HR notifications and approvals.

absentify seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Power Automate, enabling HR administrators to automate absence management workflows and connect absentify with other applications and services. This integration enhances efficiency by automating repetitive tasks and ensuring real-time data synchronization across platforms.

  **Two ways to use Power Automate with absentify:**

  * **absentify Connector** *(this page)* — uses your Microsoft sign-in, no API key. Best for the standard triggers and actions.
  * **Manual integration without the connector** — call any absentify API endpoint via the **HTTP action + API key**, or receive events through a Power Automate **webhook trigger** registered in absentify. Use this for actions the connector does not yet expose (e.g. creating members, updating allowances, managing departments). See [Power Automate (HTTP & webhooks)](./power_automate_http_action).

  An expanded connector with broader endpoint coverage is currently in Microsoft certification. Until it is published, the manual paths are the recommended way to access advanced endpoints.

## Prerequisites

Before setting up the integration, ensure the following:

* **absentify Account**: You must have an active absentify account with at least the Essentials plan. The Essentials plan includes up to 3 Power Automate flows; the Plus plan includes unlimited flows.

* **Microsoft 365 Account**: A work, school, or Microsoft personal account is required.

* **Permissions and Consent**: Accept the necessary permissions and consent by either:
  * Installing and starting the absentify app in Microsoft Teams.
  * Accessing the absentify web app and accepting the permissions.

## Setting up the integration

### Step 1: Install absentify

1. **Microsoft Teams**:
   * Navigate to the **Apps** section in Teams.
   * Search for **absentify**.
   * Select **Add** to install the app.
   * Launch the app and accept the required permissions.

2. **Web application**:
   * Visit the [absentify web app](https://app.absentify.com/).
   * Sign in with your Microsoft 365 credentials.
   * Accept the necessary permissions when prompted.

### Step 2: Connect absentify with Power Automate

1. **Access Power Automate**:
   * Go to [Power Automate](https://flow.microsoft.com/).
   * Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account.

2. **Add absentify connector**:
   * In the left-hand menu, select **Data** > **Connections**.
   * Select **+ New connection**.
   * Search for **absentify**.
   * Select the absentify connector and select **Create**.
   * Authenticate using your Microsoft 365 credentials if prompted.

  The connector now signs requests with the connected user's Microsoft Entra ID token automatically. You do not need to copy an API key from the absentify Dashboard to configure the connector.

<Warning>
  The Microsoft user who creates the connection must have signed in to absentify at least once so the Microsoft identity is linked to an absentify account. Without that one-time sign-in, connector actions are rejected as unauthorized.

### Step 3: Create a flow

1. **Start a new flow**:
   * Select **Create** in the left-hand menu.
   * Select **Automated cloud flow** to start from a template or **Instant cloud flow** for a manual trigger.

2. **Configure triggers and actions**:
   * Select an absentify trigger, such as **When a new request is created** or **When a request's status is updated**.
   * Define the actions to perform, like sending an email notification or updating a SharePoint list.

3. **Save and test the flow**:
   * After configuring the flow, select **Save**.
   * Test the flow to ensure it operates as expected.

## Example use cases

* **HR notifications**: Automatically notify the HR department via email when a new leave request is submitted.

* **Data synchronization**: Update absence records in an external HR system whenever there's a change in absentify.

* **Team alerts**: Send a message to a Microsoft Teams channel when an employee's leave request is approved.

## Important considerations

* **API limits**: Be aware of any API call limitations to ensure your flows operate smoothly.

* **Data security**: Ensure that data transferred between absentify and other systems complies with your organization's data protection policies.

* **Maintenance**: Regularly review and update your flows to accommodate any changes in processes or systems.
